The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was established to foster national unity by posting graduates to serve in states outside their region of origin. However, many corps members seek relocation (also called redeployment) due to personal reasons, whether it’s wanting to return closer to home, security concerns, health issues, or marriage.

With rising insecurity in parts of Nigeria, more corps members are looking for ways to change their posting, but some end up paying huge sums to agents, when in fact, relocation is easier than they think! Did you know you can apply for NYSC relocation online or even while still in camp?

In this guide, we’ll walk you through:

  • Basis of Applying for Relocation
  • Documents required for a NYSC Relocation
  • How to apply for NYSC relocation online (step-by-step)
  • How to apply for NYSC relocation in Camp
  • What to do after approval

Basis of Applying for NYSC Relocation

NYSC allows corps members to request relocation (also called redeployment) under four major conditions:

1. Health Reasons

If you have a medical condition that cannot be properly managed in your assigned state, you can apply for relocation. You’ll need to submit a medical report from a government hospital as proof.

2. Marriage (For Female Corps Members Only)

Married female corps members can request redeployment to join their spouses. A valid marriage certificate must be provided to support the application.

3. Security Concerns

If your place of primary assignment (PPA) or state of deployment is unsafe due to unrest, terrorism, or other threats, you can apply for relocation. You may need to provide security reports or news articles as evidence.

4. Director-General’s Special Directive

In rare cases, the NYSC Director-General may approve redeployment for specific reasons not covered above. This is usually based on official recommendations.

If your situation falls under any of these categories, you may qualify for relocation. The next step is to apply correctly, either online or during camp

How to Print Your NYSC Relocation Letter Online

Once your NYSC relocation has been approved, the next step is to print your relocation letter. This letter is what you’ll take to your new state of deployment. Here is how to get it done:-

  • Go to the official NYSC portal: https://portal.nysc.org.ng
  • Log in using the email and password you used during your NYSC registration.
  • Click on “Manage Relocation” on your dashboard.
  • Make the required payment for the relocation letter online.
  • After payment, print out your payment receipt—this is your proof in case of any issues.
  • You will then see the option to download and print your relocation letter.
  • Print the letter and keep a copy safe.
  • Take the printed letter along with you to your new state of deployment.

What to Do After Your NYSC Relocation is Approved

Once your application for relocation is approved! Here’s what to do next to ensure a smooth transition to your new state of service:

1. Collect Your Relocation Letter

Obtain the official relocation approval letter from your former NYSC state secretariat. Remember to keep multiple copies, both physical and scanned, for your records.

2. Report to Your New NYSC State Secretariat

Travel to your new state of deployment and visit the NYSC secretariat as soon as possible. Submit your relocation approval letter along with any required documents for verification.

3. Update Your Records

The NYSC officials will process your redeployment in their system. Make sure to confirm that your name, Place of Primary Assignment (PPA), and call-up details reflect the changes.

4. Secure Your New PPA

If you have a preferred PPA in your new state, submit a request letter (note that some PPAs may require a new application). If you do not have a preferred PPA, the NYSC office will assist you in finding available options in your new location.
