JAMB postpones 2025 UTME registration, introduces mock fee

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has postponed the commencement of registration for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to February 3.

The registration was initially set to begin on Friday, January 31, but has been postponed.

The rescheduling of the commencement of the registration was disclosed in a statement on Friday, shared via JAMB’s official X page.

According to the statement, the development was necessary to allow the Board to implement essential adjustments to its registration templates.

The statement reads, ”These updates are in response to the recent suspension of certain law programs at selected universities, as communicated to the Board by the Council for Legal Education.

”This change is necessary to allow the Board to implement essential adjustments to its registration templates. These adjustments come in light of the recent suspension of certain law programmes at selected universities, as submitted to the Board by the Council for Legal Education. Additionally, the Board discovered that some Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres had used deceptive facilities to be approved, prompting the need for further scrutiny and corrections by disapproving such centres.

”The Board acknowledges the disruption this may cause to candidates and other stakeholders and sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience.

”The additional time will be used to ensure that all necessary changes are made for a smooth registration process.”

Meanwhile, Intel Region reports that JAMB has released the cost implication for the 2025 UTME and Direct Entry (DE). The board disclosed that the cost implication for UTME with mock is N8,700, while UTME without mock is N7,200.

The board has also introduced a mock trial for future candidates, which will cost N3,500 to register. The registration fee for DE has been pegged at N5,700.

“Cost implication for the 2025 UTME/DE Registration is as stated below: 1. UTME with Mock-N8,700, 2. UTME without Mock-N7,200, 3. Mock Trial Testing for Future Candidates-N3,500, 4. DE-N5,700,” JAMB posted on its X account.

According to the board, the breakdown is as follows:

  • UTME/DE application fee: “N3,500”
  • Reading Text: “N1,000”
  • CBT centre registration service charge: “N700”
  • CBT Centre UTME service charge: “N1,500”
  • CBT Mock service charge: “N1,500”
  • Bank charges: “N500”
  • CBT Mock-UTME centre service charge: “N1,500”

UNILAG Registration and Screening 2024/2025 (Guideline)

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) community is hereby informed that the Screening and Registration Exercise for new undergraduate students for the 2024/2025 academic session has been extended by one week, from Monday, 3rd February to Friday, 7th February 2025.

The exercise is scheduled to occur at Jelili Adebisi Omotola Halls A and B.

All freshers who have not yet completed their screening are encouraged to utilise this extension. 

Stage 1: Booking a Registration Appointment

Candidates offered admission must schedule a registration appointment.

  • Visit the UNILAG Student Portal.
  • Log in using your JAMB Number or Application Number as your username and your surname in lowercase as your password.
  • Change the default password after logging in.
  • Click on “Appointment” in the menu bar.
  • Select “New Appointment.”
  • Choose the appropriate appointment option for your faculty.
  • Pick a date and session for the appointment.
  • Click “Schedule Appointment” and print the booking slip.

The appointment slip must be presented at the registration venue.

Stage 2: Uploading Required Documents

Candidates must upload the necessary documents before proceeding to the screening venue.

  • Log in to the UNILAG Student Portal using the credentials provided in Stage 1.

  • Upload the following documents (original copies):
    • JAMB Admission Letter.
    • O’Level Result.
    • Testimonial from the secondary school attended.
    • Previous degree certificate (Direct Entry only).
    • Birth certificate.
    • Letter of reference addressed to the Registrar, University of Lagos.
    • State of Origin Certificate.

Stage 3: Screening

Candidates must attend the screening at the scheduled date and time.

  • Submit two copies of each of the following documents:
    • Screening form from Stage 2.
    • UNILAG online application form (Direct Entry only).
    • JAMB acknowledgment slip (Direct Entry only).
    • JAMB admission letter.
    • UTME result slip (not applicable for Direct Entry candidates).
    • Post-UTME result slip.
    • JUPEB, A-Level, OND, HND, or BSc result slip (Direct Entry only).
    • O’Level result certificate (WAEC or NECO; online printouts are not accepted).
    • Letter of reference on official letterhead with NBA seal (for lawyers).
    • Birth certificate.
    • Testimonial from secondary school attended.
    • State of Origin Certificate matching the one used for JAMB registration.
    • Twelve passport photographs with full names written on the back.

Candidates must present the original copies of all submitted credentials for verification.

Stage 4: Payment of Fees

After completing Stage 3, candidates must generate a payment advice 24 hours later.

Payments can be made at any bank using the generated advice.

Stage 5: Faculty and Departmental Registration

Candidates must visit their respective faculties and departments to complete further registration processes.

  • The university enforces zero tolerance for drug use, with mandatory drug tests conducted for all newly admitted students.

JAMB Suspends Admission into Study Law in KWASU, Redeemers, six others

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it will not conduct admissions for the Law programme in Kwara State University (KWASU) and 7 other varsities.

The JAMB Spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin stated this in a statement on Wednesday.

According to him, the decision was taken over the suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme by the Council of Legal Education (CLE) for the 2025/2026 academic session at the universities.

The affected universities include;

Kwara State University, Malete, Kwara State

2. Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State

3. Redeemers University, Ede, Osun State

4. Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State

5. Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba State

6. Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State

7. Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State

8.Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.

He said the suspension of the Law programme at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, will last for two academic sessions: specifically, the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 sessions.

“As a result, JAMB will not approve any admissions for candidates seeking to enroll in the Law programme at the aforementioned universities for the 2025/2026 academic session. Furthermore, the ban on registration for the Law programme at the Nigerian Police Academy will extend into the 2026/2027 academic session,” he added.

Meanwhile, JAMB earlier announced the registration, and examination dates for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The tertiary institutions’ entrance examination board disclosed that prospective candidates can begin their registration on January 31, 2025, with the process set to end on March 5, 2025.

Ishaq Oloyede, the registrar/chief executive officer at JAMB who disclosed this during a meeting with media executives in Lagos, revealed that the 2025 UTME will commence on March 8, 2025, with a mock examination scheduled for February 23, 2025, for candidates who opt to participate.

The board reiterates that to ensure a smooth process of the 2025 registration, all candidates must meet the mandatory requirements, including providing their National Identification Number (NIN).

According to JAMB, “The NIN will be used to create a profile code, a prerequisite for the registration process. Candidates are required to send their NIN via text to either 55019 or 66019 to generate the code.

“For those opting to include the mock examination as part of their UTME registration, a fee of ₦8,200 will apply. Candidates who wish to sit only for the UTME without the mock will pay ₦7,200, while those registering for Direct Entry (DE) will pay ₦5,700.”

Oloyede explained that the mock examination is designed to allow candidates to familiarise themselves with the Computer-Based Testing (CBT) format and enhance their preparation.
